THE Most THANKFUL Thanksgiving EVER EVER EVER

My family and I dreaded our first holiday
with Travis in the state he was
and still in Texas Neuro
Hospital.  We LONGED to be preparing for
a day at Grandmother's fighting
Travis over the rolls
and ALL of us trying to curl up on
Grandmother and PaPa's bed to take a nap.
Instead we knew we had only one choice...
head to Austin to be MORE thankful
than EVER EVER EVER before
because we still had our Superman with us.
And that's just what we did.......
One day a girl named Chelsi wrote us a message
on Caringbridge that she was one
of the EMT's that was on the
scene of Trav's accident
and that she had felt a
profound impact from it.
Before we knew it,
Michelle and I were both writing to her
and ended up inviting her to
join us for Thanksgiving!

This was November, in fact, it was exactly
FOUR months since the accident and Travis
was awake and becoming more responsive than
he had been before.  He was on
occasion and really only by
request giving us the thumbs up sign.
When I introduced Chelsi to
him and explained who she was, Travis
immediately gave her a THUMBS UP...
without any prompting!!!
It was very emotional to hear Chelsi tell
us about the scene of the accident and how
she was actually the one who climbed into
the car and pulled Travis out.  She told us how
they only had seconds to get a breathing tube
down his throat...and that they were able to
get it the VERY first try (usually not the case
on a scene like this).  She fully and totally
believes that Travis is a miracle.
She never dreamed he would make it
and was worried that she would have
to miss his funeral because she was
leaving on vacation the following day.
For some reason though, she was
VERY touched and moved by Travis
and this accident.  God is ever so present.
Having Chelsi with us that day made
it all the more special...
we are so VERY, VERY thankful for her and
the crew that saved Trav's life.
We ate at Furr's Cafeteria...where my parents
and Lynna had often been eating in Austin.
That was a first for my family;)!
I do think Grandmother enjoyed the break from cooking though!!!
Hudson's first Thanksgiving...
God bless his heart!
He didn't miss a beat though!!!
So incredibly thankful for our
Blond, Blue Eyed's first Thanksgiving!
In true Lynna fashion, we walked into the
cafeteria and Lynna was friends with all
of the staff!  That's so my sister!!!
Chelsi keeps up with Travis and
we love her like family!
Scott and Dana stayed with Travis while we went
to eat, but then we were back shortly
and spent the rest of the day like it was normal
to spend Thanksgiving at Texas Neuro Hospital!
Reading his Thanksgiving card from Grandmother and PaPa...
All SEVEN Grandchildren!
Thank you, Sweet Jesus!!!!!!

We really had no way of knowing how
 much Travis was comprehending
at this point...
but we knew one thing...he & Hudson
had a bond!  Just so thankful.
Travis was learning to spell out things for us by
pointing at a letter board.
And to think four months before, we were told
he would probably never wake up
and if he did he would basically be nothing.
I think back to our Texas Neuro days and it's
like we made it our home...
I love this picture of Uncle Troy & my Travis...
These two never skipped a beat
spending their weekends and holidays
at a hospital almost two hours away.
The word "thankful" just doesn't
seem adequate enough!
This was the first picture we shared of Travis
since his accident.......
A beautiful mom and her handsome son...
THUMBS UP!!!!!!
A real life MIRACLE!
"GO SUPER MAN" is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Travis has had three mama's looking
out for him his entire life
and he's ALWAYS loved that!
The absolute BEST Grandparents in the world.
In their 70's and spending every week at
this hospital with their grandson while Lynna
worked so he would never be alone.
Thankful.THANKFUL.Thankful.
Looking back, there is so much more for us
to be thankful for...things we really didn't even
recognize at first.  One thing is that Travis
knew all of as he awoke from his coma.
Miracle after Miracle.
Guess what?  This Thanksgiving turned out to be
our best one EVER.  We truly embraced the idea
of what Thanksgiving is all about.
Being Thankful and we had more to be thankful
for than EVER before in our lives.

    I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
    Psalm 9:1

Crying tears of thankfulness over this post, Mindy! God has had His hand in every minute of Travis' rescue, treatment, and recovery. I know He doesn't do anything halfway, so I'm anticipating even more miracles in the days ahead as Travis continues to recover!
